OneHome Smart Panel installation
OneHome Smart Panel installation
Time: ~60–90 minutes
What you’ll need
-
Phillips screwdriver, level, pencil, utility knife
-
Voltage tester (non-contact)
-
Wire strippers
-
U.S. single-gang old-work box (if adding a new location)
-
120V AC supply (hot/neutral/ground) in the box
-
Optional: Cat5e/Cat6 LAN cable, low-voltage speaker wires (14–16 AWG) to your ceiling speakers
Safety first: Turn off the breaker and verify power is off with a tester. Follow local code/NEC. If you’re not sure—hire a licensed electrician.
Step 1 — Plan the location (2–5 min)
-
Choose an eye-level spot (typically 48–54 in from floor).
-
Avoid direct sunlight and high humidity (don’t install in bathrooms).
-
If using wired speakers or LAN, confirm those cables can reach this box.
Pro tip: Center the panel near the main living area so scenes are one tap away.
Step 2 — Install or prep the wall box (10–20 min)
If you already have a U.S. single-gang box:
-
Remove the faceplate, gently pull wires forward, confirm hot is off.
If you’re adding a new box:
-
Trace the old-work box template and cut the drywall opening.
-
Pull 120V cable into the opening (hot/neutral/ground).
-
(Optional) Pull Cat5e/Cat6 for LAN and speaker wires (14–16 AWG) for multiroom audio.
-
Secure the old-work box per manufacturer instructions (flip-out ears snug, not over-tight).

Step 3 — Make the electrical connections (10–15 min)
Always with the breaker OFF.
-
Connect hot (black) → panel line, neutral (white) → panel neutral, ground (green/bare) → panel ground using listed connectors.
-
(Optional) Plug in RJ45 LAN for the most reliable network.
-
(Optional) Land speaker wires to the panel’s speaker terminals (observe polarity + / −).
-
Dress wires neatly so the panel sits flush.
Do not feed PoE into the LAN port. The panel is 120V AC powered (100–240V compatible).
Step 4 — Mount the panel (5–10 min)
-
Align the panel’s mounting plate to the box; level it.
-
Fasten screws until snug (don’t overtighten).
-
Attach the panel to the plate (hooks/clicks depending on model) until it’s secure and flush.
Step 5 — Power on & basic setup (10–15 min)
-
Restore power at the breaker; the panel boots up.
-
Follow the on-screen guide to join 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or confirm LAN.
-
Log in to the OneHome / Tuya / Smart Life app.
-
Add devices (lights, switches, sensors, curtains) and assign rooms/zones.
-
Create your first scenes (e.g., Morning, Movie, Goodnight).
Pro tip: If you have voice assistants, enable Alexa/Google and link scenes for hands-free control.
-
